The county’s homeless census showed a 7% drop in overall homelessness while school data revealed a 10% rise in homeless students—an increase of about 1,535 that has worried local educators.

Districts now face tougher funding challenges as Covid recovery grants have expired and no new support is expected.

On May 19, NCTD+ launched a microtransit service in Vista that covers a 7-mile area where residents pay $3 per ride plus $1.50 for each extra rider and youth ride free; the service runs weekdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It builds on a pilot program in San Marcos that helped fine-tune the service for local needs.
